Rafting on the Enns from Schladming
approx. 2.5–3 hours (of which approx. 1.5 h on the water) · from approx. 5 people per tour, children aged 6 and up · from 45 €400 m
Fancy a real dose of action on your summer holiday — without it having to be an extreme sport? Then rafting on the Enns is just the thing for you. One of the most popular beginners' tours in the Alps starts right on our doorstep: from Mandling on the Salzburg border, it's a good 10 kilometres downstream to Schladming, past waves, rollers and small rapids. The water sparkles, the mountains drift by, and by the time the first spray hits, the whole boat is laughing. You should be able to swim — the guides take care of everything else. A perfect half day for families, groups of friends and anyone who wants to experience summer actively.
What awaits you
The classic tour covers around 10 kilometres of easy white water (grade 2–3, depending on the water level) from Mandling to Schladming. After a briefing from your certified guide, you paddle as a team through waves and over small rapids — enough of a thrill to make you cheer, but gentle enough for children aged 6 and up. In total you'll be out for around 2.5 to 3 hours, of which roughly an hour and a half is on the water. Wetsuit, jacket, boots, life jacket and helmet are all provided.
Prices & dates
The beginners' tour costs from approx. €45–49 per person for adults; children aged 6 to 15 pay from approx. €42–45 (as of July 2026). Equipment, guide and the transfer to the put-in are included. Tours run during the season from May into autumn, usually with start times in the morning and early afternoon. Booking ahead is strongly recommended — tours only run with a minimum number of participants, and during the school holidays the boats fill up quickly. Current dates and online booking can be found at bac.at.
Getting there from Schladming
It could hardly be more convenient: the meeting point is the River House of the best adventure company on Ramsauerstraße in Schladming, just a few minutes from the town centre. There you get changed, pick up your equipment and are taken by bus to the put-in at Mandling. Handily, the tour ends back in Schladming — so there's no car to shuttle around, and once you've changed you're straight back in town.
Insider tips
Bring swimwear to wear underneath, a towel and dry clothes to change into — you're guaranteed to get wet. Valuables are best left on dry land; many guides take care of souvenir photos themselves. If you're after more adrenaline, ask about the sportier tours on the Salza, which are also offered from Schladming. And with the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard, some providers in the region offer discounts — it's worth asking.
