Imagine gliding across a sunny plateau with the Dachstein’s south face to your left, snowy farmhouses to your right and freshly groomed tracks beneath you. Ramsau am Dachstein is Austria’s Nordic hub: it hosted the 1999 Nordic World Championships and still offers up to 220 km of trails among the Alps’ best. Whether it’s your first time on skinny skis or you want to refine your skating, just 15 minutes from Schladming you’ll find perfectly groomed tracks for every level, from easy panoramic loops to the high-alpine glacier trail (when conditions allow) up to about 2,700 m.

What to expect

In good snow conditions Ramsau provides 100+ km classic and 70+ km skating tracks – up to 220 km in total between 1,100 and about 2,700 m. Over 20 routes of all difficulties crisscross the sunny plateau, including the original World Championship loops in the Nordic Center. Highlights include the Dachstein glacier trail (when conditions allow), the Rittisberg high trail, a floodlit night trail in the stadium (daily 16:00–19:00) and Kali’s Cross Park for technique training. Several trails carry the Styrian trail quality seal.
