Lodenwalker Ramsau – the world's oldest loden fulling mill

1–2 hours · from 1 person, also for groups · from 0 €5 km

For culture loversFor connoisseursFor families

Loden has been fulled in Ramsau since 1434 — nowhere else in the world for as long as here. The Lodenwalker in Rössing is therefore not only the oldest business in Styria but a piece of living craft history that you can experience up close. On a walk through the genuine, working production you'll see how the legendary weatherproof fabric is made from raw sheep's wool — on machines that are in part over 200 years old. Afterwards, the shop awaits with loden fashion and cosy wool blankets, and at the inn next door you can round off your visit with Styrian cuisine. The perfect plan for a rainy day — and a real insider tip for anyone who loves craftsmanship.
