Stempelrundweg Ramsau – The 5-Huts Classic below Dachstein
approx. 4.5–5.5 h (13.7 km, ↑697 m) · moderate · 2–8 people; suitable for sure-footed kids from about 8–10 yrs · Free6,2 km
The Ramsau Stamp Loop is a leisurely alpine pasture hike right beneath the mighty Dachstein south walls. From Edelbrunn you follow trail #615 past Dachsteinhaus to Brandalm and onward toward Türlwand. A brief detour leads to the Südwandhütte with grandstand views of rock walls and lingering summer snowfields. The path then continues over the panoramic Schönbühel down into the alpine meadows, passing Neustattalm, Walcheralm and—optionally—Glösalm before returning to Edelbrunn. Frequent photo spots, inviting huts and optional bus shortcuts make this a perfect holiday hike combining scenery and culinary highlights.
Route overview
Start at the Edelbrunn–Roseggersteig portal. Follow the broad forest road (trail #615) to Dachsteinhaus and the Brandalm with its chapel and mountaineers’ memorial. Continue to the Dachstein cable car valley terminal, then ascend right to the Südwandhütte (about 40 min from the terminal). After a view-filled break, descend over the Schönbühel to the Steinfeld ditch. Turn right toward the picture-perfect Neustattalm and on to Walcheralm (cheese dairy). Either continue to Glösalm and rejoin the ascent route near Dachsteinhaus, or head straight via Brandalm back to Edelbrunn.
Views & photo spots
Enjoy a constant panorama: the sheer south faces of Dachstein, Torstein and Mitterspitz ahead, the Schladminger Tauern opposite. Prime stops include the Sitzbichl above Brandalm, the Südwandhütte terrace and the Schönbühel bench. For a short detour, visit the Austriahütte and Dachstein Museum above Brandalm—both are close and add culture to the hike.
Variants & getting back
You can tailor the loop: in summer, bus line 960 serves Türlwandhütte, Walcheralm and Glösalm—handy if legs tire or weather turns. To shorten the route, traverse from Hotel Dachstein directly to Walcheralm. For a longer classic, begin in Ramsau-Ort and hike up to Edelbrunn (the traditional “5 Huts” version).
Gear & safety
Wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry layers, sun protection and hut cash. Though moderate, roots, gravel and a few steeper sections require sure-footedness. Turn back early if thunderstorms build, and avoid exposed spots. In spring, old snow may linger; in late autumn, start early to catch daylight. Keep dogs leashed and be mindful in grazing areas.
- Constant views of the Dachstein south walls and Schladminger Tauern
- Multiple huts: Dachsteinhaus, Brandalm, Südwandhütte
- Scenic Schönbühel lookout and Neustattalm photo spot

Tip: Bring a small stamp book—many huts have their own stamps. Start early to enjoy views and unhurried hut stops.
Getting there: From Schladming center take bus 960 to “Langegasse”, then a 10–15 min walk to the Edelbrunn–Roseggersteig trailhead. By car ~20 min (11 km) via Ramsau to the Edelbrunn car park (no Dachstein toll required to reach Edelbrunn).
Price: Free of charge; parking at the trailhead may require a small fee (approx. €3–6). Food/drinks at huts extra. As of: August 2026.

Stroller-friendly?
No. Sections are rooty/steeper. Use a carrier or take older children.

Hut options?
Several along the way: Dachsteinhaus, Brandalm, Südwandhütte, Walcheralm, Glösalm (check seasonal opening times).
Public transport access?
From Schladming train station/town, bus 960 to “Langegasse”, then 10–15 minutes on foot to the start. Return options from Walcheralm/Glösalm/Türlwand in summer.
